The COVID-19 pandemic has paved the way for a new way of life – indoors. People are consuming more media content than they ever have, and they’ve turned towards OTT platforms for entertainment. There is no denying that the global OTT video streaming market has been witnessing significant growth. This is seen with premium video streaming reaching 29B minutes in Q3 2021 with VIU leading the AVOD category in monthly active users (MAU) in the Philippines, according to the MPA AMPD Q3 report.
PREMIUM CONTENT AND AWARD-WINNING VIU ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS
K-drama content is consistently the main contributor of VIU’s video views. To satisfy the Pinoy audience’s penchant for K-drama, VIU will be releasing more A-grade titles in 2022, top-billed by popular Korean celebrities.
VIU also offers a more diverse Anime library with more Shounen and Shoujo titles in 2022 that will cater to all kinds of fans.
These shows give brands more opportunities to appear in premium content where audiences are highly receptive to ads.
CONTENT LOCALIZATION
TAGALOG AND BISAYA DUB. VIU aspires to reach a broader demographic and offer more Filipinos access to quality content. Just recently, VIU pioneered Bisaya-dubbed K-drama content with Descendants of the Sun and promises more titles for a more inclusive, enjoyable viewing and listening experience through exceptional Bisaya-dubbing. This localization makes it more relatable to them as they watch their favorite shows in their native language.
LOCAL VIU ORIGINALS. VIU’s first FIlipino musical narrative series, Still, was released on the platform in December 2021. This was co-produced with award-winning filmmakers of This Side Up.
Following its success, VIU formed Studio VO, a team of international content developers from Marvel, NBC, ABC, Disney, Warner Bros, and Fox. Studio VO increases VIU’s fully owned IP and jumpstarts with a romcom series set to be released in Q4 next year.
